When building an SLI PC, NVIDIA recommends using an SLI-Ready certified power supply. Check here for the complete list of certified power supplies. As an additional recommendation, NVIDIA provides the following power supply guidelines for SLI PCs:
Quad NVIIDA SLI and Hybrid SLI Ultimate Gaming PC*:
This system configuration requires two PCI Express 6-pin and two PCI Express 8-pin auxiliary power supply connectors, and it must support Hybrid SLI technology HybridPower mode. NVIDIA has tested the majority of power supplies in this high power category and therefore only recommends SLI-ready power supplies certified for Quad SLI. Note: A number of system power supplies in the market use a modular power connector to provide 6-pin and 8-pin outputs from the same cable. A subset of these modular connectors have a mechanical latch that is too wide and do not fit the 8-pin PCI-E power connector on the GeForce 9800 GX2 graphics card and are marked with an asterisk with an ** on the SLI Certified Power Supply webseite. These power supplies will work with the GeForce 9800 GX2 GPU with a PCI Express power connector adapter. NVIDIA is working with graphics card manufacturers and power supply vendors to offer an adapter to affected customers. Please contact your manufacturer of your product to obtain a replacement connector.
3-way NVIDIA SLI Ultimate Gaming PC*:
This system configuration requires six PCI Express 6-pin auxiliary power supply connectors. NVIDIA has tested the majority of power supplies in this high power category and therefore only recommends SLI-ready power supplies certified for 3-way SLI. (Note: some power supplies ship with four 6-pin and two 8-pin connectors, where the 8-pin connectors can be converted to 6-pin. Please check the power supply manufacturers website for more information).
Extreme SLI PC*:
NVIDIA has tested the majority of power supplies in this high power category and therefore only recommends an SLI-Ready power supply.
Quad NVIIDA SLI and Hybrid SLI Ultimate Gaming PC
You must have a power supply that can provide a minimum of +12V @ 65A of dedicated power for the two graphics cards. Of this 22A requirement, +12V @ 5.5A must be available to each of the PCI Express 6-pin auxiliary power supply connectors. The remaining 11A must be supplied to the motherboard for dedicated graphics card use.
Ultra High-End SLI PC*:
You must have a power supply that can provide a minimum of +12V @ 75A of dedicated power for the three graphics cards. Of this 22A requirement, +12V @ 5.5A must be available to each of the PCI Express 6-pin auxiliary power supply connectors. The remaining 11A must be supplied to the motherboard for dedicated graphics card use.
High-End SLI PC*:
Minimum of 500-600W Power Supply with a minimum of +12V @ 30A for all PC components.
Mid-Range SLI PC*:
Minimum of 450-500W Power Supply with a minimum of +12V @ 26A for all PC components.
Entry-Level SLI PC*:
Minimum of 400-450W Power Supply with a minimum of +12V @ 22A for all PC components.
